On 11 October, Mitred Archpriest Vasyl Hovera, Apostolic Administrator for the faithful of the Byzantine rite in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, took part in a Mass of Thanksgiving presided over by Bishop Piotr Pytlowany at the Minor Basilica of Saint Joseph in Karaganda.

Bishop Piotr’s first liturgical celebration following his episcopal ordination and the beginning of his ministry as Ordinary of the Diocese of Karaganda took place at a site deeply connected with the history of persecution and the witness of the confessors of the faith of the twentieth century. During the years of persecution, this church was, for a long time, also the only place of communal worship for local Byzantine-rite Catholics.

It was here that the distinguished hierarch of the Greek Catholic Eparchy of Mukachevo, the Servant of God Bishop Alexander Khira, a confessor of the faith of the twentieth century, ministered and was laid to rest.
