GREEK CATHOLIC PARISH
OF BLESSED OLEKSIY ZARYTSKY
IN ALMATY

Parish History
In April 2010, the Greek Catholic priest Father Dmytro Orshuliak arrived in Almaty and began pastoral ministry for the local Greek Catholic faithful. Since the community did not have its own church, divine services were celebrated in the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity. Both local Greek Catholics and Ukrainians who had come to Almaty for professional and work-related reasons took part in the liturgical life of the community.
In 2017, Father Oleh Halushka was appointed administrator of the community. On August 9, 2023, following the official registration of the Parish of Blessed Oleksiy Zarytsky in Almaty with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Father Oleh was appointed parish priest and continued his pastoral work among the Greek Catholics of the Southern Capital.
Parishioners actively participate in the life of the community. Catechism classes and Bible study sessions are held for adults and children; every day, the community prays the Holy Rosary together through a Telegram channel; children attend a health and catechetical camp during school holidays; and, in order to preserve the cultural and spiritual heritage of Ukrainian Christian traditions, theatrical performances dedicated to the Christmas and Easter celebrations are organized.
