LITURGY IN SHYMKENT

On July 5, 2026, a Greek Catholic Divine Liturgy according to the Byzantine Rite was celebrated in the city of Shymkent. The service took place at the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus.

The Divine Liturgy was presided over by Mitred Archpriest Vasyl Hovera, Apostolic Administrator for the Byzantine Rite faithful in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. He was concelebrated by Fr. Yaroslav Holovchuk, pastor of the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Pavlodar.

Among those in prayer were Byzantine Rite faithful living in Southern Kazakhstan, as well as Roman Catholics interested in the Byzantine liturgical tradition and members of the Ukrainian diaspora.
