MEMORIAL SERVICE AT PESCHANLAG

On June 30, 2026, the Apostolic Administrator for Byzantine Rite Catholics in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, Mitred Archpriest Vasyl Hovera, together with Father Yaroslav Holovchuk and parishioners of the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Pavlodar, visited the memorial complex dedicated to the victims of totalitarian repression in the city of Balkhash, Karaganda Region.

The memorial complex was erected in 2023 in memory of Lithuanians and Ukrainians who served their sentences in the Peschany Corrective Labor Camp of the GULAG system.

A memorial service was celebrated at the memorial for all victims of political repression. Special prayers were offered for the repose of those who endured suffering and death there, as well as for all innocent victims of persecution.
